Today I wanted to share some secrets to pump up the flavours for a simple dish like avocado toast. Yes it is so simple, you toast the bread, smash the avo on top and ready...or not?
Ingredients:
bread of choice (mine was low carb multigrainbread from Aldi)
avocado
vegan butter
1 clove garlic
lemon juice
seasoning
toppings you like
1. First of all you need to chose a bread you like. I love the ones with seeds in it, but it's a personal preference.
2. The way you toast your bread gives the base of the whole experience. And now let's forget about the toaster. Just grab some vegan butter, lightly butter your bread on both sides (yes both sides), and put it in a pan over medium-low heat. Wait until the one side is golden than flip it. Actually the butter will give you a much better crust and a richness in flavour.
3. Peel one garlic clove - no, the garlic powder is not good for this - and rub it onto the surface of the toast on both sides. It will literally melt into the bread and season it well. Be avare, that you will smell after this!
4. Mash the avocado, add salt, pepper, lemon juice, garlic (this can be powder), nutritional yeast, chilli flakes if you like, than scoop it onto the toast.
5. You can top it with anything you like: seeds, vegan cheese, soy sauce sautéed mushrooms, tempeh bacon, fresh tomatoes, microgreens.... the possibilities are endless.
