Halloween brutal burgers

Happy Halloween for all! Welcome to the spooky season. In Hungary we don't really have Halloween, but it starts to sneek in, and I enjoy pumpkin carving, spooky movies (no horror for me just fun) and I can fully embrace my love for black food haha.

This time I made the ultimate burger king and queen in black buns. It has a homemade thick burger patty, with black lentils (of course), black tomatoes (of course), and a black soul.... (of course)

And yes, my queen has a bow on her head and bbq blood running out of her mouth.

So who wants to indulge in this big burger party? Hands on the big girl.

Ingredients (for 2):

Black burger buns - it can be store-bought or homemade normal bread recipe colored with activated charcoal

Iceberg lettuce (won't get soggy as normal salad leaves would)

Purple onion cut in rings

Black (or normal) tomatoes cut in circles

Pickles - I used pickles coloured purple with beetroot

Bbq sauce

Vegan cheese slices

Lamb's lettuce

Hummus

Olives

Burger patties:

One medium sweet potato cooked

1/2 cup black lentils (normal is okay too) cooked

3 tbsp oats ground into flour

1 onion finely chopped

1 clove garlic

Basil leaves, salt, pepper, oregano, chilli if you like spicy

Prep the patties first. Sauté the finely chopped onion, then add the garlic grated. Mash the sweet potato, lentils and onions together, then start adding the oat flour and the spices.

Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes, so the oats soak up the moist and stick the ingredients together. Form 2 big patties, they can be a bit thick, because it's all cooked already.

You can bake them in the oven, flipping halfway or in a pan, until both sides are nice and brown. Add a slice of cheese on top when you flip them, it will melt on it.

While your patties are cooking, prep the veggies you want to put in the buns. Cut the buns in half, I usually warm them up a bit in the same pan I used for the patties. Add some hummus on the bottom half, iceberg lettuce, bbq sauce (to get bloody when it's running out). Add the patty and slightly press it down so the bbq sauce comes out a bit. Top it with cheese slice cut in half with a zigzag pattern, that will give the teeth. Put the remaining veggies on top, tomatoes, onion rings, pickles, lettuce. Add some hummus on the top part too and crown your burger with it. Decorate with the olives, and you can give a bow on your queen (used a simple bowtie pasta).

Dig in and enjoy your burgers with a movie or at a party with friends and have a great time.

Hope you enjoyed this recipe and will make it at home. If yes, don't forget to tag me or send me your creations, I'm always glad to see them :)

Have a spooky holiday.
