How to NOT be a morning person?

Hi Lovelies,

I can imagine some faces reading the title, like “What the heck???? Not to be a morning person?”

In a world where everyone keeps telling you, if you’d like to be successful you need to be up at 5 am and finish all important tasks before 7 am to have a productive day/life/whatever.

Believe me I tried and tried over and over again to wake up earlier, to clean my apartment in the morning, to load the washing machine, do the dishes, etc. But really I need 15 minutes to open my eyes and get out of bed, than grab a coffee or tea and check my phone in peace, so leave me alone. I also put my phone on the other side of the room, so I needed to get up to make my alarm clock stop, but I just simply didn’t wake up and slept in :)

So how to NOT be a morning person and be on time? Here are some tips:

1. Skip your job and enjoy freedom

Okay for this one you need to

a) win the lottery, or

b) change job and look for an at home work

c) rob a bank

Let’s be real for version a) chances are low. For plan b) you need to really step out of your comfort zone. Before you would make radical steps look around, do your research if there is any at home work which would be suitable for you, and with which you can maintain your current lifestyle. If you find one, then try it out, see if you are successful in it, and it will be a long term solution.

Version c) I hope you know I was just joking :)

2. Prep the night before

Now this is complex, but worth to do:

- meal prep: you can do it the night before, or at the weekend (check previous post here on how to do this). But most importantly prep your breakfast, lunch, snacks in separate containers, put together in a bag, and put it in the fridge. In the morning you only have to grab it and take.

- schedule your next day/week in the evening: I usually write any important dates, appointments in my agenda as soon as I get them, or schedule at the weekend when I will have time to visit someone, do the laundry, clean the apartment, etc. Usually every evening I run through the next day, if I have any more tasks I can get time for the next day, than I write it in. In the morning you only need a look at it over your coffee and you’re done with your check-list. If you can’t keep all in your head and don’t want to take your agenda with you, you can keep all information on your phone, or just simply make a photo of your agenda page, there you have it, guaranteed you won’t forget anything.

- prep your clothes: when you are done with scheduling your day, you’ll know if you will have a casual day, or have a meeting, or have free time tomorrow. So you can choose you’re outfit accordingly, and don’t have to stress over it in the morning, when you feel nothing fits, I don’t have a clean shirt, I don’t have any clothes in my fully stuffed wardrobe… Pick your items, and also try them on, this way you’ll see if it fits, if it needs to be ironed, if all pieces go well together. Than just hang them up in the bathroom and relax. Oh, and don’t forget to choose shoes.

- prep your skin care: this means two things for me. First when I have an important meeting and need to look good, I usually put on a face mask the night before. Second tip is when you already know what you will wear, you can choose your make up colours accordingly. You don’t put on brown eyeshadow with a pink blouse, do you? Pick your make up items and gather them in one spot where you only have to grab and finish the look in 5 minutes.

- wash your hair: I usually wash my hair in every 4 days. But I always try to wash it in the evening, so I have time for a hair mask, to iron it or curl it, to blow dry with cool air not hot air in 2 minutes, to apply hair oil treatment to the ends when I finished styling. Who has time for this in the morning? Plus frizzy hair usually goes down till morning, as your hair cools down. There are also some good no blow techniques, which needs time to get your hair dry. If any time schedule is out through the window and you don’t have the time to wash your hair, than hop on Pinterest and look for a cute hairstyle for greasy hair. A ponytail or a hat can save your day :)

If you have done with all preps, than just grab dinner, relax, watch TV and go to sleep in time :) If you like these tips or have other ideas, just feel free to comment and share.
